12-13-05...Letter to Acting House Majority Leader Roy Blunt Regarding Revising the Patriot Act
I commend you for your great work looking out for the needs and aspirations of good hearted taxpayers who want to live in a country and society that we can be proud of with elected leaders who act responsibly with the privilege afforded them by our labor and earnings! I'm alarmed at how little of that I'm seeing in Congress these days under the Republican Majority. As the Patriot Act reauthorization bill works its way through Congress please know that I feel strongly that it is bad law and needs to be rewritten. It's my understanding that it was never fully understood by just about anybody in Congress to begin with. Please work with a bipartisan group, ideally, of lawmakers in blocking this latest version. I support filibustering if that's the only way to stop and repair the Patriot Act. It should not be reauthorized until it reflects the real needs, privacies and freedoms of honest and ordinary Americans. I, for one, have had my fill of special interest government and will vote against anyone I suspect has a hand, or a pocket, in that kind of thing. Thank you in advance for listening and for truly representing the real public of America. Not the insulated perception displayed by the words and deeds of Congressional leaders who seem to ordinary Americans to live in a separate reality when it comes to policy making. Sincerely, Don Conoscenti / Chicago IL 12-13-05
