Duster Hit A Silo

duster hit a silo

hwy 6 hastings nebraska 1997

I'm neck and neck with the union pacific
hwy 6 all to myself. west bound beside the tracks.
racing engine 17 to the town yard in hastings.

everyday I beat the pants off him but this time
i'm gonna let the union win.
there's an injury at the granary. foreman just called me in.

crop duster hit a silo in sutton this morning.
it's already been a strange day.
plane was nothing but a pile of parts but the pilot walked way.

it was johnny barton from clay center.
he'd just moved back from kentucky.
sheriff said he was drunk  or stupid. I'd say he was damn lucky.

i've never been east  well, once ... got as far as hannibal.
went there with my ex to visit her folks.
i pretended to be mark twain  she pretended to laugh at my jokes

hasting's not east or west.  it's right down the middle.
i grew up here and i like the pace.
maybe tomorrow i'll think about a change
but first things first, i've got a train to race.
