play The Sky Is Crying (with The Nudes)
from Box Of Bones - Cogtone 006 - 1996(don conoscenti, bill melanson)
the sky is crying for sophia.
it's used to seeing her around
grew accustomed to her singing in the twilight
now it misses her sweet sound
wants to know what am i doing
walking here tonight alone
i tell the sky that it is finished with sophia
she does not make her heart my home
see her shadow in the garden
where all the fruit has gone to seed
have to harvest what we planted
there is more food here than i need.
so i will take some to the village
and they will ask how you have been
i will explain that you are southbound on the old road
and will not be back again
i'll say this of sweet sophia. she is like the winter sky
one day she melts the deepest snowfall in december
next day she lets the cold wind fly
oh sophia she was dangerous
she left me spinning in the night
led me deep into the darkness.
all the while promising the light
our sacred love now lie in ruins
like these roads that led to rome
i will retrace my steps alone without sophia
and they will take me safely home
they will lead me safely home
it's good to be back home
the sky is crying for sophia.
it's used to seeing her around
grew accustomed to her singing in the twilight
now it misses her sweet sound
wants to know what am i doing
walking here tonight alone

The beautiful vocal and cello arrangement was done by Walter Parks and performed by him and Stephanie Winters, his partner in "The Nudes". Their individual solo projects are brilliant. Look them up
